What is Live Scan Fingerprinting?

Live Scan is a system used for the electronic submission of applicant fingerprints to the Department of Justice (DOJ).  Live Scan is a computer digitized fingerprinting that replaces the process of recording fingerprint patterns through a rolling process using ink.  This system allows for the electronic transfer of fingerprint image data to DOJ in a matter of seconds, instead of the days required to send print card through the mail.  This system also allows for the results to be received within days, versus seven to ten weeks required for a print card.

 Who needs Live Scan?

There are several industries and professions who are currently required by law and who also benefit from Applicant Live Scan for employment verification and licensing. Some of those professions may include, but are not limited to:

For Employers:

State law requires many employers to obtain criminal background checks for their volunteers or employees via Live Scan.

 Employers need to register with the Department of Justice (DOJ) of California, which will issue them an ORI (Originating Agency) code. The ORI Code identifies the agency requesting the Live Scan, and is necessary for submission of Live Scan fingerprint applications.

  Along with the ORI code, a Mail Code can also be requested. The mail code will allow the employer retrieval of applicants’ responses from a secure electronic mailbox at the DOJ, speeding up the process.

    Live Scan Fees:

    Our Live Scan Fingerprint Rolling fees is $15 (does not include Government fees). Government Fees may vary depending on the Requesting Agency, Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation.
